What should the audit take into account?

An audit against the ISO 14001 standard is a process designed to determine the extent to which the requirements of ISO 14001 are being met. In an ISO 14001 certification audit, the legal and voluntary environmental requirements, those specific to the ISO 14001 standard, and those defined in the documentation (manual, procedures and instructions) of the environmental management system must be audited.

An ISO 14001 audit must be a process that is:

  • Independent: The auditor must be objective and impartial, independent of the audited area.
