Requirements of the IATF 16949 standard
The aim of the IATF 16949 standard is to develop a Quality Management System that provides an environment for continuous improvement, with an emphasis on defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste within the supply chain.
The IATF 16949 standard, together with the applicable Customer Specific Requirements, defines the fundamental requirements that a Quality Management System must meet for companies producing automotive parts.
IATF 16949 and the compendium of technical specifications published by OEMs and national automotive associations introduce a set of common techniques and methods for the development of products and processes in the automotive sector.
The standard is aligned with the structure and requirements of ISO 9001. The specific requirements of IATF 16949 are additional to those of ISO 9001.
