ISO 14044 on Life Cycle Assessment
The ISO 14044 standard on “Life Cycle Assessment” or environmental assessment is a tool linked to eco-design:

ISO 14044 requirements regarding life cycle assessment
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) evaluates products, packaging and processes by identifying the environmental impact, throughout their entire life cycle, of a new product compared to others on the market, or by comparing different manufacturing processes for the same product in environmental terms.
Life Cycle Assessment evaluates the potential environmental impact of a product, process or activity throughout its entire life cycle by:
- The amount of resources used (‘inputs’ such as energy, raw materials required for manufacture, transport of raw materials, water or energy used)
- Environmental emissions (‘outputs’ to air, water and soil)
- Determining the contributions of the different stages of the product’s life cycle to total emissions
- Socio-economic impact analysis, using Life Cycle Assessment tools to increase efficiency at each stage of the product’s life cycle.
