ISO 14001 and EMAS on the beaches of Sitges

Through its ISO consultancy services, EmasConsultors has helped Sitges Town Council to achieve and maintain EMAS (European Management Audit System) certification for its beaches, as well as ISO 14001 environmental management certification and Biosphere certification. The certification body SGS has managed this certification process. The scope of the certificates covers ‘comprehensive beach management’ with the certification body SGS.

The EU’s EMAS verification guarantees excellence in environmental management.

The certification and EMAS status for Sitges’ beaches covers all beaches along its more than 20 km of coastline.

With these certifications, Sitges’ beaches demonstrate their commitment to the continuous improvement of both environmental management and social responsibility linked to the responsible management of the beaches.

Thanks to these certifications, Sitges’ beaches have gained external recognition. This enhances users’ enjoyment and confidence.

The results achieved in beach management are communicated through the Environmental Statement. This can be viewed on the Sitges Town Council website. The results have also been presented at other forums, such as the National Environment Congress (CONAMA).
